ICONIC SOUNDS (HORROR)
WHAT ARE ICONIC SOUNDS?
Iconic sounds are very important in films, they help to give certain scenes meaning and a clear understanding. For example, iconic sounds are used in Horror to show what is happening in the scene. Whether it be a character in distress or chase etc. A certain sound would be played to act on this to make it Scarier and more intense.
Popular choices for horror sound effects could be:
- Creaking floorboards
- Wolf Howling
- Evil Laughter
- Strong winds
- Loud breathing
Below are some examples of the effects I listed above. I have also picked out some famous soundtracks that are played in the opening's of films. These are made scary through the use of slow eerie music usually building to a faster pace, in comparison to the short iconic sound effects. This is commonly used to create a sense of suspense.
